Academy Progress Report

View Page Summary
This section explains explains progress made as of October 2008, and contains information for students and parents.

Dear Parent/Carer

Progress Reports

In the first weeks of next term we will be trialling the Academy's reporting system. The first ever set of reports will inevitably take a little time to get right, but once the system is firmly in place, we will produce a detailed report for every student each term. I hope you will find that this frequent level of feedback will provide you and you child with accurate up to date information on their academic progress. I should also remind everyone that Term 2 begins on Tuesday 4th November.

Absence from School

Authorised absence from the Academy will only be granted in highly exceptional circumstances from the beginning of next term. It is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure that students attend the Academy daily during term time, therefore from November requests for holidays which are to be taken in term time are unlikely to be authorised.

Uniform

We have had an excellent first term with regard to the standards of student uniform, but could I please remind all parents/carers that students should only be wearing black socks and only black belts that fit through the belt holes on trousers are permitted.

Smart Card Credit Payments

It would be helpful if parents/carers could send students with cheques as opposed to cash whenever possible.

Consultation Weeks and Parents’ Evenings for Year 11 and Year 12

Consultation Weeks allow parents who cannot attend Parents’ Evenings to visit the Academy during the working day and ‘drop in’ on teachers in classes to discuss your child’s progress. Your son/daughter can meet you at reception and then visit teachers with you. If you would like to take advantage of this daytime service for Year 11, please contact the Year Group PSO Mrs Sandra White at swhite@corbybusinessacademy.org to arrange a time for your visit. For Year 12 please contact Mrs Bartley Smith at abartley-smith@corbybusinessacademy.org. In term 2 there will be a Parents’ Evening for Year 11 on 12th November and for Year 12 on 3rd December. The evenings will begin at 5pm and close at 7pm. Students will be issued with appointments sheets next term to book times with staff.

Winter Snow

If overnight snowfall means we need to close the Academy, parents/carers will be informed via the local radio news. Site staff and senior managers will ensure the Academy’s switchboard is manned from early in the morning to take calls from parents.

If heavy snow during the school day requires us to close, students will be able to call home and arrange to be collected. Alternatively we intend to organise a reduced bus service to operate as a shuttle to Corby and our linked villages. In order for students to use such a service, the Academy requires parental consent that students may be sent home in such circumstances. Unless I receive replies to this letter stating that you are not consenting to this emergency arrangement, I will assume that consent has been given.
