Can there be a Dr Campbell’s Question Page?

Everyone can send questions to Dr Campbell through the questions page of the web site. Dr Campbell will use the Principal’s Blog page to talk about important topics raised by students and staff.

How do we get a place?

Students already attending Corby Community College in August 2008 will automatically get a place at the new Academy. New Year 7 students will join us at the Academy, as will those ex-Year 11 students who are returning in September 2008 to begin their sixth form studies.

If our brothers/sisters are there will that make a difference?

Students applying to join the Academy who have an older brother or sister still at Corby Community College will be given priority in the admissions process if more than 200 students apply. If less than 200 applications are received, everyone will be offered a place anyway.

Will where we live make a difference?

The Academy will take students from the whole of Corby and some of the local villages, just as the Community College does at the moment.

Transport

Details of the transport to the Academy are being decided with Northamptonshire County Council. More information on transport, including bus routes, stops and times will appear once this process is finished. Keep looking at the ‘News’ pages for updates on transport.

Catering

The restaurant in the Academy will be a pleasant and relaxing space serving high quality food for staff and students. Students will pay using a ‘smart card’ which is like their credit card for use inside the Academy. Details of menus and costs will be published on the web site before the Academy opens.

Uniform

Information about what the uniform looks like can be found on the ‘Academy Life’ pages. Soon we hope to take some pictures of students wearing the new uniform and add these to the site. The Academy will help parents of students at Corby Community College meet the cost of the new uniform. Details of how to order and how to pay for it will be published in 2008. The internet will not be the only way to order uniform.

Learning

The curriculum at the Academy will cover a wide range of subjects and different types of courses. We will make sure students can use modern technology in as many areas as possible. There will be computers in every faculty area and modern workshops for art, design technology and food technology. We will have lots of other excellent facilities to use, including a fantastic sports hall, a dance studio, an all-weather pitch with floodlights, three grass pitches and some tennis courts. If you follow the curriculum and facilities links in the ‘Academy Life’ section of the site, you will find some information about what students can learn.

Over the next few months your teachers will begin working with Dr Campbell to decide on the curriculum in the Academy. As our plans take shape, we will publish them on this web site.

Who will teach us?

All teachers and other staff working at Corby Community College in August 2008 can move to the new Academy. As we get closer to the opening date for the new school, we will put up a ‘Who’s Who?’ web page of all Academy staff, so you can see who will be there on the first day.

Times of the school day

The times for the school day, including breakfast and lunch are set out in the ‘Academy Life’ section of the web site. For at least the first three years, the Academy will have the same holidays as other Corby and Northamptonshire schools. It will not run a Brooke Weston style five term year in this time.

Extended Schools

The Academy will open early in the morning (7.00am) and will remain open for students to use its facilities until 5.30pm. There will be late buses back to Corby from the Academy. Students will be able to get an early breakfast in the school and a coffee shop will be open at the end of the teaching day for those who wish to stay behind late. We hope that there will be lots of clubs and activities after school and that students will want to make the most of everything in the Academy including the library and sports facilities. We will offer courses and informal training to parents groups. These will be run by the Academy’s Community Team.
