Sensory Room transformed into tropical paradise

Our Sensory Room was transformed into a tropical paradise to celebrate the World Cup being held in Brazil.

Our Sensory Room was transformed into a tropical paradise to celebrate the World Cup being held in Brazil.

The room, which is used by our students in Unit, was decorated with pictures of tropical birds, animals and vegetation and from the ceiling was hung a canopy of branches featuring brightly coloured wildlife.

The decorations are designed to make the room look like the Amazon Rain Forest of which 60% is in Brazil.

Unit Director Claire Robinson said: “This term and last term we have been looking at the Rain Forest and Brazil because of the World Cup.

“All our decorations for the Sensory Room have been created by the students.

“They have created the canopy, the trees, the wildlife and a river.

“To prepare for the project they did a lot of research into the Rain Forest and used that in their decisions about what to make.

“We use our Sensory Room for a lot of cross-curricular activities and for the work we do around social skills.

“It also gives the students somewhere to relax and appreciate the work they have created.”

The Sensory Room has been part of the Academy since it opened. Staff and students change its decorations two or three times a year.

Music can be played in the room and there are a variety of different coloured lights in the room to produce different atmospheres.
