A number of students have been awarded medals in recognition of their fishing skills.

Eight students from Unit were given the chance to take part in the latest Catching the Smile fishing course at Ringstead Grange Island Fishery which was run by the Masonic Fishing Charity (MTSFC).

Ben Haslam won the medal for catching the most fish after he landed four trout, James Butlin won the medal for catching the first fish of the day and Amy Gallacher won the medal for Persistance.

CBA Teacher Nikki Clark said: “It was a great experience for the students. Each of them received one-to-one tuition and the fishermen were very generous in passing on their knowledge.

“We would like to thank all the fishermen who took part in the event.”

During the event one of our students, James Butlin, also had the chance to go fossil hunting.

The other students who went on the trip were Marley Price, Kian Wolfenden, Sean Mathieson, Liam Easton and Natasha Cadogan.

All the students were presented with a certificate for completing the course.

The Catching the Smile course is designed to give people with special needs the opportunity to learn about the countryside and how to fish.
