Textiles students visit The Clothes Show

More than 30 of our most creative students had the opportunity to see the latest inspirations to hit the catwalk at The Clothes Show.

More than 30 of our most creative students had the opportunity to see the latest inspirations to hit the catwalk at The Clothes Show.

The group of students included Year 8 students who are interested in studying GCSE Textiles and GCSE students studying Textiles, Art or Photography.

The students had the chance to take part in exciting workshops, watch catwalk shows featuring the biggest names in fashion and visit stands displaying work by university and college students at the world famous event at NEC Birmingham on Tuesday.

CBA Textiles Teacher Abbie Parsons said: “It was a good opportunity for the students to see how designers interpret the same themes in different ways and use a variety of techniques to create different looks.

“Most of the students had not seen a catwalk show before so it was a great experience for them.

“It featured outfits that you would not tend to see on the High Street. Catwalk fashion tends to be more creative and it will hopefully have inspired our students to be creative with their controlled assessments.

“Our students need to produce items which are commercially viable but to get to the top marks they also have to come up with creative and innovative ideas.

“The students really enjoyed the event and they were a credit to the Academy.”

The workshops on offer included knitting, screen printing, crochet and sewing.

The Olympus Pen Style Studio catwalk show was presented by The Daily Telegraph’s Fashion Director Hilary Alexander and the Image catwalk show was presented by Jamie Laing from television’s Made in Chelsea.

The students also saw live performances by singer-songwriter Andy Jordan and former X Factor star Josh Daniel.

Our students were accompanied by more than 20 students from our fellow Brooke Weston Trust school Kettering Science Academy.

Miss Parsons added: “It is great that Brooke Weston Trust schools can join together for such exciting events.”
