Unit students tackle Bronze DofE expedition

Nearly 20 of our students from Unit have taken part in an expedition for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Nearly 20 of our students from Unit have taken part in an expedition for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The students were challenged to navigate from the old airfield south of Wilbarston to East Carlton Country Park using maps or photo trails and they walked up to five-and-a-half miles.

They camped at the park and had to prepare their own lunches and breakfasts.

Some of the students were completing their final assessed expedition whilst for other students the expedition was either their practice expedition or part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze training.

CBA Director of Unit Claire Robinson said: “The students did very well and it was a good opportunity for them to socialise with their friends.

“They camped, cooked their own food on a trangia gas stove and successfully navigated the route.

“They demonstrated excellent teamwork and leadership skills.

“For some of them it was the first time they had stayed away from home and they were very proud of themselves.

“We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff who assisted with the expedition.”
