GCSE PE students visit Loughborough University

A group of our GCSE PE students had the chance to visit Loughborough University as part of the Race to the Top scheme.

Thirteen Year 10 students were invited to tour the university and find out what an elite performer at the university has to do.

CBA Director of PE Amy Harris said: “We had a fantastic day looking at the facilities and finding out about university life.

“We also had a practical volleyball session and a fitness testing session where the students got to measure their speed, agility and power using speed gate cameras.

“All the students throughly enjoyed the day and were inspired by what they saw.”

The students who attended were Rhys Kingston, Ryan Shields, Angus Anderson, Ewan Martin, Thomas Sheridan, Aiden Robertson, Matthew Ford, Onyi Enwerem, Melanie Byrne, Jessica Icke, Alfie Pye, Jack Herbert and Tay O’Neill.

A visit for Year 9 students will take place in the near future.

The Race to the Top initiative is designed to encourage our most able students in Years 7 to 11 to aim even higher by providing them with access to a range of opportunities, trips and challenges.

CBA is able to run the initiative, in partnership with our fellow Brooke Weston Trust school, Kettering Science Academy, after we successfully bid for local authority funding.

Our joint programme is the only one in the county that focuses on academically more able students and is designed to develop the whole person and help them to be successful.
