Students studied the boundary fence around the Astro Turf pitch to work out gradients.

They looked at the wedges supporting the fence and calculated the gradient by counting the vertical squares in the mesh and dividing it by the horizontal squares.

Maths Teacher Maxwell Sam said: "The lesson was about how gradient/slope is used in our everyday lives. Students saw that gradient is not just drawing straight lines in their books - they found out how meaningful y=mx+c is to them."

In other maths lessons at CBA, students have used the mirror in the dance studio to study reflection and used cars in the staff car park to collect and interpret data, calculating the mode colour, mean colour and median.
