Melbourne Band To March Through CBA
CBA is hosting a special performance by the Melbourne Salvation Army Band as part of international celebrations to mark the 120th anniversary of Salvation Army staff bands across the world.
Eight bands from countries including Germany and Japan are coming to the UK this month and will be performing at various locations across the country.
CBA is among them after Director of Music Clive Wears was contacted by the Kettering branch of the Salvation Army to see if the Academy could host the special event.
The Academy was only too happy to help out and the Melbourne Staff Band, which has travelled the 10,499 miles from Melbourne to Corby, will perform to Year 7 students tomorrow afternoon (May 27th) in the Academy's theatre.
Afterwards, the 40-piece band will march through the central area of the Academy to give all students and staff a chance to see them in action.
The celebrations culminate later next week when with all eight bands will stage a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, march down the Mall in London and perform in Buckingham Palace's forecourt.
Mr Wears said: "We're very lucky as a school to have these kinds of facilities so we can accommodate something like this. It's fantastic that the band will be performing to our students."
The Academy is an apt location for the band to perform as CBA has a flourishing music department, with around 150 students now playing a musical instrument.
At the recent Kettering and District Eisteddfod, the Academy's Senior Concert Band came first in its category as did the Senior Brass Ensemble.
