New Records Set for Corby Business Academy’s Third Year

Corby Business Academy has achieved its best ever set of GCSE results with more than three quarters of students (77 percent) gaining five or more A* to C grades.

In its third year CBA has continued its rapid improvements at GCSE level, with a significant increase on the previous year's results and a rise of 29 percent from its first year in 2009.

The Academy's students have shown great strength in the highly valued GCSE subjects with good performances in subjects such as History, Music and English Literature - in which 65 percent of students gained the top rated A* or A qualifications.

CBA Principal Dr Andrew Campbell said: "We are delighted that over three-quarters (77 percent) of our Year 11 students have achieved at least five GCSE grades at A*-C this year. This almost doubles the best ever results from our predecessor school, Corby Community College.

"Students, staff and parents have worked together to make this improvement possible. These results show the ambition and determination of students here at CBA to be the very best they can.

"The results for five GCSEs including English and mathematics were in line with expectations at over 30 percent with some appealed results still pending and there were several excellent individual student performances. Following on from our successful A Level results last week, the future is bright for CBA."

Year 11 student Dominick Dolecki (pictured with Andreea Paisa) gained 9 A* at GCSE or equivalent and 3 As. He will continue studying within the Brooke Weston Partnership to achieve the A Levels needed to enter the dentistry profession.

Other top achievers include Andreea Paisa, Fraser Gillan, Charlotte Bean, Julia Marquis-Pike and Steven Forsythe.

Charlotte Bean  gained 8A* equivalents and 1 A grade, Julia Marquis-Pike gained 7 A grades and 4 A* GCSE equivalents and Fraser Gillan achieved 6 A GCSE and 4 A* equivalents

All will be continuing their studies at CBA - Fraser to study Physics, Maths and Further Maths and Charlotte to take A Levels in English, Media, Maths and History.

Charlotte said: "I am still in shock, but really pleased. I could not have done it without the teachers who have just been such a great support."

Student Katie Harrison also excelled within her vocational studies, gaining the equivalent of 13 GCSEs, meaning she can follow her dream of taking up a London hairdressing apprenticeship.

Once again the Academy has continued to thrive at its business specialism, with 16 Business Certificate distinction star grades.
