The Brooke Weston Middle Leadership Programme was launched this year and is aimed at closing the achievement gap in schools by giving staff training in how to develop new teaching and management strategies.

The intensive course took place over ten months and included residential sessions and regular meetings with colleagues and mentors.

Acting Principal John Henrys said: “John and Natasha undertook a piece of work looking at the performance of an identified group of students that were underperforming in both English and Mathematics. They engaged with students, staff and parents to identify areas that could be improved and then fed back to the whole staff on the use of identified strategies for improvement.

“I have seen them both grow in both leadership skills and confidence thorough the completion of this piece of work and look forward to working with them on future school improvement projects.”

Mr Atkinson, who is a business teacher within the BHE faculty, said: "The course has definitely helped my career and has hugely increased my confidence and completely changed the way I look at things. It has given me an overall whole-school perspective and has increased my confidence to work with different areas of the school."

Miss Dunstone, who is a PE teacher within he Active department, said: "The course was real insight to the way schools use data to run efficiently and effectively. It was a worthwhile experience that opened my eyes to a variety of approaches to leadership and management within the school environment. I think it has set me up for making the next steps in my career." Nine teachers from the three BWP Partnership Academies (CBA, Kettering Science Academy and Brooke Weston Academy) enrolled on the course.
