Two Sixth Form students are taking a trip to Poland to visit Auschwitz.

A Level History students Steven Forsyth and Charlotte Bean have been selected to go on the infamous concentration camp after putting in writing the reasons why they should go.

The visit has been organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust whose aim is to educate people about the horrors of the Holocaust and the important lessons that can be learned from it.

Steven said: “I wanted to go as Miss Farrar said that it is something that should be experienced by everyone and I think it is important to go.

“It will be a really thought provoking experience.”

Charlotte said: “We are studying Germany and World War Two as part of our A Level and so this experience will be invaluable.

“By taking part we will become student ambassadors for the Holocaust Educational Trust and make sure that we communicate to other students about the experience."

It is estimated that almost six million Jews were persecuted and murdered by the Nazis during World War Two.

The deaths totalled almost two thirds of the Jewish population living in Europe.
