GCSE Results Day
Students at Corby Business Academy are this year celebrating the school’s best ever set of results.
Provisional figures indicate that 79 percent of students achieved five A* to Cs, with a large number of students achieving the top grades.
The results show just how much the Academy has achieved since it opened four years ago.
Acting Principal John Henrys said: “Our students have done well across the board. These great results are further evidence that Corby Business Academy is going from strength to strength and that we are a school that helps its students to achieve.
“We have also had a number of good performances from Year 10 students, which is an indicator of how we will do next year.
“Next years’ Year 11 students will be our first cohort to have had their entire secondary education with us and their results will be a true measure of just how far the Academy has come.
“I am delighted for this year’s students and their success is fully deserved.”
The number of students gaining five A* to C grades including Maths and English has seen a rise of 17 percent since 2008.
Ellie Moore and Amber Garrett picked up a hatful of top grades between them.
Ellie, who will now be returning to the sixth form to study Dance, Business and Travel and Tourism, received an A* grade for Dance and A grades in Travel and Tourism and Business. She also received B grades in English, Maths and Statistics.
She said: “All the hard work paid off in the end. Seeing the paper with the grades on makes it all worth while.”
Amber received an A for English and a distinction star in two BTEC subjects.
She said: “I am hoping to go into law and so these grades will really help me work towards that ambition.”
Recently crowned Student of the year Daniel Urquhart got a clutchful of A grades. With an A* in Maths, and A in English, Science and History and a distinction for Business BTEC, he is now on track to continue his passion for History.
Josh Farr, will now go onto study Level 3 Motorsport at Rockingham Speedway. The student, who received a A grade in Maths said: “My dream is to work as a mechanic or technician for a formula One or Rally car team and my level 2 course in vehicle maintenance taken here at the academy will help me do that.”
Ross McCue, will now go on to do navy training in Scotland after being accepted to the Marines course.
He said: “I start my training in December and then once I am 18 I can begin Marine training. I am really pleased with my results and have the grades that I need.”
Year 10 students Emily Carroll and Katie-Anne Middleton were all smiles after doing well, despite sitting the exams a year early.
Emily gained an A* in Physics, and As in Biology and English with a B grade in Maths. Katie-Ann gained an A in English, B in History and Cs in Science and Maths.
Jessica Mullan gained 17 GCSEs or equivalent. The talented student gained Distinctions in Dance and Business and will now be returning to study Dance, IT and Travel and Tourism.
Kate Warrior also gained a number of top grades, despite missing two months of school due to illness.
