Students have been pitching in to help plant 420 trees on the school’s grounds as part of a Woodland Trust project.

The trees are being planted as part of the charity’s More Trees, More Good campaign, which was launched in 2010 with the aim of facilitating the planting of 20 million trees a year for the next 50 years.

Year 7 students started planting the trees on the school’s boundary this morning and the rest of Year 7 will plant more trees tomorrow.

Teacher and staff governor Peter May, who organised the project at CBA, said: "When I saw the project being highlighted during summer 2011, being a member of staff at a new build school I recognised the opportunity of being able to do something long term with the school in order to celebrate the Queens Jubilee.”

The 420 trees will create a native hedge and a copse in the school grounds.

Students have been planting six different types of trees – dogwood, cherry, hazel, hawthorn, birch and rowan.

Paul Bunton of the Woodland Trust said: “For many of these children, this was the first time they had ever planted a tree. Educating today’s children about the benefit of looking after our environment will help protect the forests of tomorrow. The More Trees, More Good campaign will hopefully make a lasting impact on the UK landscape - with the help of our young children."
