Newly elected Corby and East Northamptonshire MP Andy Sawford visited Corby Business Academy to speak to Sixth Form students about their views and aspirations and to ask them what they wanted him to do as their new MP.

The visit on Friday 23rd November was Mr Sawford’s first constituency visit since being elected.

He met with the Sixth Formers for a question and answer session, during which he asked the students a number of questions and encouraged them to ask questions of him.

Mr Sawford asked the Sixth Formers whether they wanted to go to university or get a job when they left school and what their career aspirations were.

He asked the students what the issues were that mattered to them and asked their opinions on how he should vote in a forthcoming parliamentary vote.

Mr Sawford said: "It was really interesting to come and meet with young people at Corby Business Academy and hear their views about politics.

"People in Corby and East Northamptonshire are incredibly spirited people, often with strong views, and that goes for the young people too. It was really interesting to hear their views on a range of issues."

Year 13 student Paige McIlhatton asked Mr Sawford several questions during the question and answer session.

She said: “It was interesting because I haven’t ever taken an interest in politics, but it’s good to know that our new MP is going to take on the opinions of the younger generation."

After meeting the Sixth Formers Mr Sawford was given a tour of the school by Principal John Henrys.
