A lively drama opened the eyes of our Year 9 students to over 350 careers which are on offer in the NHS.

A lively drama opened the eyes of our Year 9 students to over 350 careers which are on offer in the NHS.

The production was put on by educational drama company Enact Solutions which is working with the NHS – the 7th largest employer in the world - to show students the service employs more than just medical staff.

The drama was about three students who are trying to find their friend who has gone to hospital and in the process they meets lots of NHS workers, including gardeners, electricians, plumbers, cooks, IT staff, operations directors, art therapists, librarians and phlebotomists.

Teacher Karen Turney attended the performance at CBA on Tuesday.

She said: “The session on career opportunities in the NHS was very interesting and informative.

“The actors in the drama group were young, energetic and entertaining and managed to engage the students throughout the session.

“One student said 'I’d like to find out more now – I thought you had to be a nurse or a doctor to work in a hospital'.”

Actors Brenton Hamilton, John Pank and Lucy Litchfield, of Enact Solutions, performed all the roles in the play.

Mr Pank said: “The show involves lots of different characters who have different roles in the NHS.

“The play doesn’t tend to highlight the roles of doctors and nurses, it concentrates on roles which people don’t normally associate with the NHS.
