Four creative student bakers from our Academy have been crowned the first ever winners of the Great Brooke Weston Trust Bake Off.

Four creative student bakers from our Academy have been crowned the first ever winners of the Great Brooke Weston Trust Bake Off.

Year 8 students Adam Short, 13, Tiegen Renwick, 13, and Rebecca Loveday, 13, and Year 7 student Courtney Coleman, 12, beat teams from Brooke Weston Academy, Corby Technical School, Kettering Science Academy and Thomas Clarkson Academy to win the title during the grand final which was held at our school on Thursday.

All the finalists were picked following 12 weeks of tough competition involving six baking masterclasses and six baking challenges to find the very best bakers in each school.

During the grand final each team had to produce an afternoon tea for six people in five hours.

CBA Restaurant Manager Chris Lapsley launched the trust-wide competition on the back of last year’s highly successful CBA Bake Off and he ran the masterclasses for our students.

He said: “I’m over the moon that our students won. They have all worked so hard and I am very proud of them.

“Myself, Cath Davis and Debbie Reilly have really enjoyed working with the students during the masterclasses and it is great to see that everyone’s efforts have paid off.

“It was also a pleasure to spend time with the students from all the different schools during the final.

“All the finalists worked really hard and the standard of every afternoon tea was exceptionally high.

“Each school came up with a different menu so there was a lot of variety.”

The final was judged by four external judges, including two catering lecturers from Tresham College, a professional butcher and professional baker.

Principal John Henrys presented the trophy to our students.

He said: “The standard produced by all the competitors has been extremely high. I thought last year’s CBA Bake Off final was amazing but the quality of what has been produced during this grand final has moved things on even further.

“The quality of the food and its fantastic presentation was testament to the hard work and creativity of both the students and staff who have been involved in this competition.

“All the students did incredibly well to get to the final and I’m very proud of our students for winning.”

Each winner was presented with an individual trophy which was inscribed with the words The Great Brooke Weston Trust Bake Off Final 2014 I was on the Winning Team.

Our Academy also received a large trophy which was inscribed with the words The Great Brooke Weston Trust Bake Off Final 2014 Champions.
