Open Invitation To Listen To The Virtuosi GUS Brass Band

Students and parents are invited to listen to some top class music this week as the Virtuso GUS band are holding an open rehearsal on Thursday 10th September from 8pm -10pm in the theatre at CBA.

The band is fine tuning its performance in preparation for the British Open Brass Band Competition taking place at Birmingham Symphony Hall this Saturday (September 12).

Rehearsals are taking place tonight (Monday, September 7), Tuesday and Thursday from 8pm to 10pm in the Academy theatre.

Director of Music Clive Wears, who has been a percussionist in the Northampton-based  band for the past 16 years, said: "We are looking forward to the challenge of the set test piece.  There is an awful lot of  percussion in the piece so it is keeping us extremely busy."

The band is one of 17 from across the country that have qualified for the prestigious competition.  It will be playing Herman Pallhuber's 'Titan's Progress' in the competition and is hoping to repeat its performance back in 1989 when it won the title.
