Reader Leaders Attend Literary Conference

CBA students speak at conference.

Earlier this month five CBA students wowed delegates at the Corby Literacy Conference.

Jade MacLeod, Connor Wilson, Elle-Jay Young, Sophie Williams and Henry Brady have all been taking part in the Reader Leader project and gave a 15 minute talk about their experience.

They were in fantastic company, with other speakers coming from the United Kingdom Literacy Association, the Open University and Oxford University.

Though very nervous, they all agreed it was a fantastic experience and were all pleased to have been invited.

The Reader Leader scheme started in November 2009 when 15 Sixth Form were given a day's training on mentoring readers by specialist company Reading Matters.

Since then they have met twice a week with Key Stage 3 students, helping them improve their literacy skills and reading confidence.

Elle-Jay, Sophie and Henry all talked about how the scheme has given them confidence and a belief in their own abilities as learners.
