Maths Whizz Hits UK Top 100 Spot In Online Challenge

A CBA student achieved 90th position in a national online maths challenge which sees hundreds of pupils competing against each other.

Barbara Silva, from Year 9, was listed in the UK Top 100 students on the Mathletics website last week.

The website, which is used by 3 million students and 7,000 schools worldwide, encourages young people to enjoy maths and improve through online quizzes and games.

Those with the highest number of points across the country are listed in the UK top 100 in the Mathlectics World Hall of Fame.

Maths Teacher Maxwell Sam uses the website as a homework resource and Barbara, a keen mathematician, has been limbering up to become a top Mathlete.

She said: "The Mathlectics website is an opportunity for us to develop our maths skills while doing fun games.

"We get set homework and then Mr Sam checks it on the system - you can do it at home or school.

"It's a different way of doing things and it's fun."
