Inspiring Assemblies From Year 8

Year 8s shared their success stories during a special assembly held to celebrate achievement.

The theme was 'I'm Great at This' and 16 talented students overcame their nerves to stand up in front of their peers and speak about their individual achievements.

They are all successful at a high level due to their dedication to a variety of activities including sport, music, dancing, languages, horse riding and go-karting.

Each student is committed to several hours of practice or training each week.

Roisin Curran, who was part of an under-13 Irish dancing team  which won the Irish Dancing World Championships last year, said: " When I did the 'I'm Great at This' assembly, I felt happy because I wanted to show everyone what my interest is, especially the Year 7s because they didn't know I did Irish dancing.

"I have been dancing since the age of three and enjoy it very much."

Chloe Iliff said: "I felt good about sharing what I am good at so everyone can hear about it. My aim is to get at least 4 UK rankings by the end of the track season and have another good cross country season."

The students also interviewed staff about their interests, revealing hidden talents in diving, triathlon, baking, craft, judging at dog shows and running.

Many staff and students said they enjoyed the assemblies and were impressed by the students' achievements and commitment.

Student Sereti Ogwang said: "I thought the assembly went well and we also got to learn about what our friends and others do outside of school.

"It showed me how many things there are to enjoy outside my little bubble. My interests are dance (I won the 2011 contemporary dance award) and music (I played in youth brass 2010.) Music is my life, I enjoy it so much."
