Callum Selected For England Basketball Talent Group

Callum Cresswell has been picked out as one of the East Midlands’s best young basketball players.

The Year 9 student is now attending England Basketball’s prestigious Area Performance Centre programme and is being trained by one of the country’s top basketball coaches.

The programme, which is aimed at young people aged from 13 to 15, is a route to being selected to play for the region and then for the country.

The student, who also plays for the men’s team Market Harborough Flyers, began his first training session at the end of November.

He said: “It was great to be coached at that level and to train for a full six hours.

“I hope to play for England one day and am also considering playing college basketball in America.”

CBA basketball coach James Aston said: “Callum has gone from strength to strength in the past two years. He has been playing many hours per week of basketball and it is showing in his games. He is now being tracked by England Basketball through the APC and I hope they help him to reach his potential.”

The talented sportsmen began playing the sport aged just 5 and was initially coached by his mum who has played basketball and netball for the county.

Callum is part of the CBA Year 10 which recently came second in the district championships.
