Year 10 student Thomas Ewers got a taste of what a career as an engineer would be like when he took part in a course over the Easter holiday.

Thomas was selected by The Smallpeice Trust to attend a week with them and the National Grid at their training centre in Eakering, Nottinghamshire.

The Smallpeice Trust is an independent charity which provides programmes to promote engineering careers to young people.

During the holiday Thomas joined 46 other Year 10 students who are also budding engineers on the course.

He visited an electrical power station and a gas hub.

Thomas said: “We did hands on learning and we found out about what the National Grid actually does. It taught me a lot that I didn’t know.

“It was an interesting week.”
