Students discussed which book should win the Carnegie award with students from other local schools at an event last week.

A group of 12 CBA students took part in the themed day at Lodge Park Academy alongside students from Brooke Weston Academy and Woodnewton.

CBA librarian Amy McKay, who is one of the Carnegie judges this year, also gave a talk.

Miss McKay said: “They all had a 45 minute discussion about all the different shortlisted books that they had read and which one they thought was the winner.

“Then they did a quiz all about the shortlisted books, which got very competitive.

“After that I gave a short talk about being judge.”

The students were all given the chance to try ‘book pushing’, which involved speaking in front of the other students about why they thought a particular title should win.

Miss McKay said: “The student choices for the winner were ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio for the Carnegie award and ‘I Want My Hat Back’ by Jon Klassen for the Greenaway award.”

The winners of the Carnegie and Greenaway awards will be announced on Wednesday (June 19th).
