Inspiring Ellie's work is 'exceptional'

Year 8 student Ellie Fox-Ricketts rose to the challenge when her maths class was asked to create a poster showing the results of a diary they had been keeping on energy input and output.
The students only had to keep the diary for a day but Ellie decided to keep it for a week and used her results to produce a large poster featuring bar charts, colour-coded pie charts and general facts about energy consumption.
Her poster has now gone on display in ML1 to inspire students during one-to-one mathematics sessions.
Ellie said: “We had to record everything we ate and did over a day but I decided I would do it for a week so I could compare my findings.
“I also researched how much energy we use when we’re sleeping or doing different tasks and I worked out how many calories were in different meals.
“I feel really proud that the teachers think my work could help inspire other people.
“Maths is my favourite subject and I would like to go into accountancy.”
Assistant director of mathematics, Maxwell Sam, said: “This is exceptional work.
“It is incredibly detailed coursework and Ellie is the best student we have in Year 8 when it comes to independent learning.
“Her work is on display in the mathematics department and we hope it will motivate other students during their one-to-one sessions by showing them what it is possible to achieve.”
