A competitive young runner from our Academy has won a place in the Regional Cross Country Championships.

Lauren McMullen (pictured) finished 9th in the U-13 girls’ race at the Northamptonshire Cross Country Championships last Saturday.

Finishing in the top 14 meant she will go on to represent Northamptonshire in the Regional Cross Country Championships which will take place next month.

Active teacher Natasha Dunstone said: “Lauren ran a fantastic race over the very hilly course, which was very damp and muddy.”

The good news for the Academy did not end with Lauren.

Chloe Illiff finished 18th in the U-17 girls’ race which means she is on the reserve list for the regional competition as well.

In addition Dannielle McCann Gaskill came 22nd in the county in the U-15 girls’ race.

Miss Dunstone said: “Chloe ran well and enjoyed the challenge of the hills

“After a year away from cross country and athletics training, Dannielle made a brilliant start to a comeback.

“I’d like to say well done and thank you to all three girls who raced and endured the cold and wet conditions.

“We are proud to have them representing the Academy and congratulations again to Lauren who made it through to the Regional Championships.”
