June 2012 - Queen's visit to Corby

June 2012

Dear Parents / Carers

I am sure that you will all have heard the exciting news that the Queen is to visit Corby on 13th June and that the Olympic Torch is to pass through the town on 2nd July on its journey around the country.  These are obviously significant events for the town in which our students and the schools themselves will want to be involved as much as possible.

Many students are already involved in the preparations for the visit of Her Majesty the Queen on 13th June and have been given letters by Corby Borough Council to that effect.  We are delighted to be able to allow those students to take part.  However, we feel unable to allow the remainder of the students out of school on the day – especially in view of the congestion which will result in the Town Centre and the associated health, safety and security issues.

For the Torch Relay, an area has been set aside for a small contingent of students from each school along the route.  We therefore propose to take a selected group of students on the day to watch the Torch Relay.  Of necessity, again because of the health and safety issues concerned, this will be a small pre-selected group of students who will be informed in advance of the arrangements.  Unfortunately, all other students will need to remain in school.

In many ways we regret that we are unable to allow all of our students to take part in these two important events within their town, but we hope that you will understand that we have taken these decisions with the safety and well-being of our students uppermost in our minds.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Yours faithfully

Mr John Henrys

Acting Principal
