Year 9 students win prestigious business award

A group of Year 9 students won the top award for Business Acumen at the grand final of the County Schools Challenge.

This year Northamptonshire Police challenged secondary school students to come up with a product to tackle cyber bullying and promote e-safety for the contest.

Our students formed a company called Ciberwise which produced an educational pack of learning resources for primary schools.

Their team was one of just eight which made it to the final where they gave a presentation about  their product to the competition judges and about 100 spectators.

CBA Teacher and Project Facilitator Karen Owen said: “I was really proud of the way the students delivered their presentation.

“They confidently answered all the questions that were flying at them from the judges.

“They were thrilled to come away with an award for getting through to the final and to receive the Award for Business Acumen – it was quite an achievement.

“We’re very proud of them. They are great students and they were an absolute delight to work with.”

Ciberwise’s educational pack for primary schools included a quiz about e-safety. Pupils who answer the questions correctly are rewarded with certificates and badges as they go through the different sections of the game.

The resources also include activities the pupils can do at home with their families in order to win a family certificate.

In addition the pack features pencils, posters, teachers’ mugs and rulers and schools can choose to buy an annual subscription so they can take advantage of any upgrades to the product.

The team will give a presentation in assembly to our Key Stage 3 students next week to encourage more students to take part in the competition next year.

An internet safety expert from Northamptonshire County Council also wants to present all of the finalists’ projects to representatives from CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) and Childline.
