Kyle Murray has secured a place at the University of Nottingham to study Mathematics after achieving an A* in Business Studies, A in Maths and A in Further Maths. He said: “I am overall really pleased with my results and couldn’t have asked for much more. My brother went to the University of Nottingham and also studied Mathematics and so I know a lot about the university and the course. Whilst I am unsure of the exact career route I want to take, I know it will be related to maths.  I am looking forward to the breadth this course offers and in your second and third year you are able to take the course in your own direct of interest whether it be Computer Science, Physics or something else so I feel this will allow me to solidify the direct of the career route I want to take. They also offer a year in industry or abroad which is something that made this particular course really appeal to me.

“Flashcards really helped me revise for Business Studies and I would complete past exam papers for Maths. I really enjoyed Further Maths as I like a challenge and always looked at it like puzzle. I would advise students taking their A-levels next year to use the school facilities on offer. I completed around 80% of my revision at school as I know I struggle to do this at home.

“I would like to thank Head of Sixth Form Mrs Anderson who helped me to gain confidence within myself. I have enjoyed the experience of studying at Corby Business Academy and my Year 13 teachers have been especially great.”

Narayan Collins gained an A* in Maths, A in Further Maths and B in Physics. He will go on to study

Mathematics at the University of Durham. He said: ‘I am very happy with my results and that I am going on to study at a prestigious university for my chosen course. I am looking forward to learning at a higher level and would like a career path related to the subject.

“I used techniques such as re-writing and summarising topics as well as completing extra worksheets throughout my studies. I would advise students coming into Sixth Form next year to keep calm. I have enjoyed the real sense of community throughout my time at Corby Business Academy and would like to thank my parents for their support.”

 

Christopher Williamson will also be going on to study Mathematics at the University of Nottingham after achieving   an A* in Maths, A in Further Maths and B in Physics. He said: “I am feeling good about my results. I have always enjoyed Maths, particularly Further Maths as despite it being challenging, the topics are very interesting. I know I would like to have a career related to the subject and I am looking forward to the challenging topics that university has to offer, as well as living by myself.

“Throughout Sixth Form I most completed practise papers and would advise students taking their A-levels next year to work hard. I have gained some great friend throughout my time at the Academy and have enjoyed taking part in the many of the trips they have on offer. I would like to thank my teachers who have supported me throughout my studies.”

Emma Holbrook achieved an A in the Extended Project Qualification, B in English Literature, B in

Media and Distinction in Health and social Care. She is now going on to study Publishing at the university of Central Lancashire. She said: “I feel great. It is absolutely amazing to get the grades I wanted. I’m very pleased I have got into Lancashire at it is the leading university for my chosen course. I would really like to go into publishing at the end of my course, I have always loved books and been fascinated by the process.  Books inspire people and I want to help people publish their stories.

“A combination of flashcards, mind maps and re-reading information has really helped me through my studies. I loved the library at the Academy, studying in there and it really helped me to focus. I would advise students taking their A-levels next year not to stress about what their future will be like. It will affect your current grades so focus and remember to breath!”

Kirsten Downs has secured a place at the University of Arts London to study Photography after gaining an A in Photography, B in Media and C in Psychology. She said: ‘I am pleased that I have been able to achieve a place on the course I wanted to study at my chosen university. Photography provides you with the ability to express yourself without using words and I am dyslexic so struggle with words.  I have been inspired by Francesca Woodman’s’ work, it really connected with me at A-level. Her perspective on vulnerability has encouraged me to continue to study photography and I can’t wait to study the subject in London. I really want to pursue a career as an Art Director as I like combining my creative ideas.

“Throughout my A-level studies I would redo questions using the examiners reports to have a clearer understanding of what they were looking for. I would advise that students coming into Sixth Form next year pick subjects that they like and enjoy because if you have a passion something you will naturally try harder at it.

“I would like to thank Miss Boyd and Mrs Dolby for all the extra hours they took to help support me to build a portfolio. The teachers go above and beyond their job roles at Corby business Academy for every student. I have enjoyed my time at the Academy and have many happy memories of the Sixth Form area.”
