Roisin’s Under 16 Figure Team put in a great performance to lift the World title at the competition, which was held at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast during the Easter break.

The biggest event in the Irish Dance calendar proved to be a great celebration for the Curran family, as Roisin’s younger sister Rebecca (Year 7 - pictured back row far left) also won medals, winning a silver medal in the Under 13 Figure Team and Bronze in the Under 13 Ceili.

Year 9 student Roisin, who has competed in the championships three times and became a World Champion in 2010 when she was part of the U13 Figure team, said: “We were delighted to have won as there was a technical hitch with the music during our performance and we were not sure whether this had spoiled our chances.

“So we were thrilled when the judges decided that we were the best.”

The sisters train at the renowned Carey Academy in Birmingham – where they travel twice a week for practice.

They will now start preparing for the All Ireland competition next year.

This was the 42^nd Irish Dancing World Championships. Hundreds of dancers from across the world gather to take part.
