Local History visits to Kirby Hall and Lyddington Bede House

September 2011

Dear Parent/Carer

Local History visits to Kirby Hall and Lyddington Bede House

I am writing to inform you of two visits I have arranged for students with an interest in history.

The first visit is to Kirby Hall, one of England's greatest Elizabethan and 17th century houses on Thursday 15th September. We will be leaving the Academy at 3.30pm and plan to return to school no later than 5.30pm so students can catch the late bus home at 5.45pm.

The second visit is slightly further afield to Lyddington Bede House, originally a medieval wing of a palace belonging to the Bishops of Lincoln and in 1600's an almshouse for 12 poor 'bedesmen' over 30 years old and two women (over 45), all free of lunacy, leprosy or the French pox! This visit will take place on Thursday 22nd September, again leaving the Academy at 3.30pm returning at approximately 5.30pm in time for the late bus home.

There is no cost for these visits however your son/daughter may wish to bring a small amount of money with them to spend in the Gift Shop. Also they may wish to bring a snack and a drink with them.

I do hope that your son/daughter expresses an interest in visiting either of the above two properties. Places are limited (a maximum of 14 students only) so please return the reply slip as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully

Sam Stacey
