Academy Senate Meet The Mayor

CBA students had a personal audience with Corby Council’s leader and the Mayor at a special event last week.

The group of students were personally invited by Mayor Cllr Mary Butcher and Leader Cllr Pat Fawcett to the Mayor's Parlour in the council offices in George Street on Thursday, June 25.

Keen to hear what young people have to say the leader asked for questions from our community spirited senate members and top of the list was the issue of daytime public transport to and from the Academy and the Priors Hall area.

Year 9 student Kevin Karuga Ogwang asked what the plans were and Council leader Pat Fawcett said the authority would look into the issue and that the final decision would be made by the county authority.

She said: "Corby Council can't make that decision but we can talk to the people that make the decisions. I think it is a good idea and once we get the wheels in motion I see now reason why it can't go ahead."

Other issues discussed by the group were more community facilities for young people around the area and the exciting projects currently going on at the Academy such as the Dragon's Den.

Year 9 member Nicole Parsons said: "It was great to have a tour of the mayor's parlour and to be able to meet the council leader.

"The councillors really did seem interested in what we had to say so hopefully some of our recommendations will be realised."
