Dance Club proves most popular

A dance revolution is sweeping the Academy as more than 30 students are attending the weekly KS3 dance club.

Dance instructor Daryl Handy has been astounded by the interest in Key Stage 3 club which takes place on Wednesdays from 3.15pm to 4.45pm.

She said: "Right from the start of Term 1 we have had a huge number of students come along and each week we have a consistent number of 30 or more students.

"A lot of the students dance outside of school so they already have an interest in dance and are exploring it further here at the Academy."

The Session 3 club specialises in dance and the students are now preparing routines for the Christmas Concert being staged on Wednesday, December 18th.

Year 10 students who are studying for their Dance Leadership Award qualification are also helping lead some of the sessions.

Just like the Dance Club the Dance Leadership Award has proved hugely popular, with 30 plus Key Stage 4 students involved.

Mrs Handy said: "The dance department is becoming very strong as we have lots of talented students with a keen interest in dance.

"The students were great in the Summer Show and we are keen to show off their talents in the Christmas Show."
