Successful Mentor Project Returns

A mentor scheme in which students link with business people has returned for a second year.

Experienced staff from Corby's largest employer RS Components will be imparting their knowledge to Key Stage 4 Business students and helping them to understand the realities of business life.

The scheme follows a successful project last year which helped students understand the practical side of working within a big business.

The Mentors will support the students throughout the crucial years of 10 and 11 and be on hand to offer guidance and advice.

Gillian Roberts, who is a work experience coordinator for RS and will be acting as one of the Mentors, said: "The Mentors are here to provide the students with impartial support and encouragement and the ability to match their academic understanding of business skills with real-life practical experience and advice.

"RS is extremely honoured to be given the chance to help and support the students and trust that they will benefits from our business experience"

As part of the scheme the students will visit the nearby RS site to find out how the electronics business works and will have the opportunity to spend a day shadowing their Mentors and find out how the theories they are studying, fit in to the day to day life of a business.

The mentors and mentees met last term and will start the mentoring process this term.
