Year 7 Basketball Team Wins Tournament

Incredibly it was the first set of matches for the newly established team who drew one game and won all the others in the Corby, Oundle and Thrapston School Sports Partnership tournament held at CBA last night.

The win means the team - which was called CBA Hotspurs for the tournament - will now go forward to battle it out with other teams from across the county in the Northamptonshire Year 7 County Tournament taking place at Daventry Leisure Centre on February 8th.

Coach David Joseph said he knew the team had the potential to claim the victory.

He said: "The Year 7, 8 and 9 teams all train together so it is really helping the younger students to be playing against and training with the older students.

"Before the tournament I said to the players, 'if you play well you can win this', and they really did themselves and the Academy proud."

The team was made up of Luke Carscadden, Will Bell, Tim Beeby, Jacek Lambach, Kristien Warren and Callum Cresswell.

They took on two teams from sister school Brooke Weston and The Kingswood School as well as King John School and Oundle Kingscliffe, who they beat in the final by 6 points to 2.

Mr Joseph has awarded the CBA player of the Tournament to Will Bell.

The Year 7, 8 and 9 teams train during session 3 on Thursdays. New students are always welcome to attend the sessions and the coach is hoping to see more girls attend the sessions.
