Poetry in Motion

A bestselling children’s poet made a visit to CBA as part of a project to inspire the joy of reading.

Paul Cookson served up a mix of the silly, sensitive and serious at the two one hour sessions held in the CBA Library today.

Selected Year 7 students were invited to the performance, which involved some Ukulele playing as well as poetry reading.

The visit was part of the Corby Learning Partnership's Winter Tales programme which aims to encourage students to read for pleasure.

The Preston based poet, who has written many children's poetry books and is also the poet in residence at the National Football museum, said he enjoyed his visit.

He said: "The students responded really well and really seemed to enjoy the performance."

Each student was given a free signed copy of one of the poet's books at the end of the session.

Year 7 student Shannon Davidson said: "The poet was great and has really inspired me to read. I would not have picked up a poetry book before, but will be reading this collection and then probably some of his others."
