Year 11 Students Picked To Be Part Of New Dance Troupe

TWO year 11 students have been selected to become part of the newly founded Corby Youth Dance Company.

Malaina Nichol and Melissa Owens beat off stiff competition from other students across the Corby area at the auditions held on Monday, January 12 at neighbouring The Kingswood School.

They will become part of the 20 member dance group which will perform at The Castle Theatre in Wellingborough on March 13 and 14 as part of a county wide dance showcase.

Melissa was placed in the top three girls and will receive a scholarship to the dance troupe.

Melissa, who studies BTEC dance and attends the dance club in session 3, said: "I did not think I would get through so I am really delighted.

"I want to have a dance career and would love to go on stage in London."

Malaina, who attends Hip Hop dance classes outside of school, said: "I went along to keep Melissa company, so I was not expecting to get through, especially as I have not tried contemporary dance before."

The students will now join dance sessions being held every Monday evening.

The troupe, which is made up of dancers aged from 13 to 19, is run by the county council funded Northants Dance Group.

Dance teacher Miss Dickinson said: "This is a huge honour for both the girls and the school."
