Success Story of Dance Leadership Awards

A pilot project at CBA has seen 30 students gain a nationally-recognised Dance Leadership Award.

The group were selected to take part in the programme at CBA which leads to a qualification that enables them to lead small dance classes under supervision.

The students, who were in Year 10 when they completed the course last year, had to study different aspects including classroom behaviour, communication skills, planning a lesson and leadership skills.

Their studies culminated with each student teaching dance to a group of Year 7.

The young leaders also also got involved with CBA show rehearsals.

There was a 100% pass rate and Dance Coach Daryl Handy, who led the course, said it helped many of the students to grow in confidence.

She said: "Not only does it give them empathy for their teachers, but some of them are now so much more confident.

"They might never have thought of themselves as leaders or dance teachers but it's shown them that they have hidden talents and that they can achieve more than they thought."

"I taught an amazing group and they proved that self discipline and belief leads to achievement and success."

Sports Leaders UK, which runs the programme, has asked the Academy to be a pilot for Level 2 of the award, which CBA is hoping to introduce.
