Sixth Formers To Run Young People’s Award Ceremony

Sixth Formers at CBA are busy preparing for Northamptonshire’s Young People of the Year ceremony after they were invited to help run the event.

The awards will recognise the talents and dedication of young people across the county, in what is the first YOPEY ceremony in Northamptonshire.
YOPEY was set up by a former national newspaper journalist, Tony Gearing.
Fed up with the bad press young people were getting, he set up the first YOPEY in his home town in Hertfordshire.

The scheme has now been rolled out across the country and Northamptonshire's first ceremony will be held on Friday, November 12th at Rockingham Speedway.

Organisers invited Sixth Formers at CBA to help run the event, which will be attended by dignitaries from the area.

Year 12 students then picked the roles they were interested in, including presenters, sound technicians, scenery erectors, photographer's assistants and ceremony openers.

Several of the roles require advance training with YOPEY staff and students have been busy preparing for the special night.

The awards are supported by Northamptonshire Police and sponsors include construction company Kier.
