Award-Winning Engineer Inspires Students

Students were shown just where science can take them during a talk by an engineer who won the Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award.

Sally Walters (pictured with a student) is a senior civil engineer with the international engineering company, Pell Frischmann.

Her award, which she received from the Institution of Engineering and Technology last December, is sponsored by RS Components and as part of the award, Ms Walters acts as an ambassador for engineering.

RS Components arranged for Ms Walters to pay a visit to the Academy and she spoke to Year 8 and A Level Physics students.

Vice Principal Lorraine Smith said: "The idea was to help inspire Year 8s before their assessments and get them thinking about science for the future."

Ms Walters added: "It has been truly fantastic to be able to talk to students from different areas and walks of life. Their enthusiasm and fresh eyes really are inspiring and can help to re-invigorate my love for engineering."
