We Are The Champions

CBA lifted the trophy in the first inter-academy Maths Day Challenge for Gifted and Talented students.

The group saw off competition from their peers at Kettering Science Academy and Brooke Weston Academy in the first event of its kind at KSA on Tuesday, January 8th.

Throughout the day all the Year 8 students were involved in a range of team challenges, which tested their mathematical skills, their ability to work well as a team and problem-solving skills.

They had to make their way around a number of maths 'stations' before working in mixed-academy teams to build the strongest and highest tower out of just spaghetti and marshmallows.

The students had to 'buy' the materials and the amount of money they had was determined by how many answers they'd got right in the previous round.
Student Harrison Tomkins said: "Some of the tasks were hard to do but we worked well to try and figure out the right answers."
During the day-long event, every competitor from CBA demonstrated and applied excellent knowledge to meet the demands of their maths challenges.

Student Polly Jones added: "'It was challenging but really fun."

The winning team was made up of the following champions:

William Bell
Danni Calvert
Josh Champion
Alex Cotter
Aimee Coy
Roisin Curran
Matthew Hanna
Polly Jones
Alex Lawless
Kit Panther
Kristien Warren
Harry Tomkins

Claire Howsam, the Gifted and Talented Coordinator, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to commend both the exceptional behaviour and outstanding achievement that all students demonstrated; they were a credit to our Academy, working well in their team to win first place. Well done."
