A Different Kind Of Art Lesson

A BTEC group was given an introduction to graffiti art to show how it can be used creatively in the right place.

The Year 10 art group received tuition from two professional artists as part of the Air 'n Soul project run by Pedestrian Arts in Leicester.

Todd Wood and Tim Smith spent the morning helping students to create bright, colourful canvasses with spray cans and paint pens.

Two students who are judged to have produced the best pieces of work and demonstrated good behaviour will take part in a celebration event and master class at the Royal & Derngate Theatre in Northampton.

Tim said: "The aim was to introduce them to the idea that graffiti art is different and that it's something that people can make a living out of through commissions and as a profession.

"This is an outlet and it's a positive way of experiencing spray paint.

"The group at CBA was very enthusiastic."

The group produced an array of canvass designs throughout the morning  - click here to see a gallery.

Student Daniela Jesus said: "Usually we do more traditional art in our lessons so it's good to do something more modern. I never thought I would do something like this in class. It was good to come up with your own design."
