Year 7 students have designed pewter jewellery on the theme of macrobiotic nature and have been making colourful badges. They have also used the laser to make display stands so the jewellery can be shown.
Year 9 students have enhanced their hand made wooden boxes with the addition of a plastic cut motif, making a colourful quality product to fit their design brief and Year 11 are making the final adjustments to their coursework items by adding items cut out by the laser cutter. The staff have also been getting enthusiastic encouraging their Year 10 tutor group to dress the Christmas tree with plastic baubles they had made.
Not to be outdone Mrs Duell used the laser cutter to make a Christmas tree. If you spot
Mr County around the Academy you need to look out for his plastic tie pin.
Mrs Davis, with the help of Mr Forbes, got to grips with the sublimination printer in textiles and students have printed mouse mats and fabric with logos and pictures.
Exciting times for design as we move ahead with the commissioning of new machines next term. What a fantastic opportunity for students. Watch out for some new after school clubs and keep your eye on the screens for details in early 2009.
