Year 9 Girls Selected To Play At County Level

Two Year 9 netball players have made it into the county squad.

Erica Turner and Heather Phillips are now in the ranks of the best players in the county after being selected to represent Northamptonshire at U16 level.

They will find out at trials held over the next two weeks whether they have made it into the first team.

The honour comes after much hard work from the sporty pair who both play for Corby Netball Club as well as the CBA team.

Erica, who plays goalpkeeper, said: "I would be over the moon to get selected. I love the sport because of its team element and besides cricket I also play cricket, football, rounders and take part I athletics."

Goal shooter Heather said: "It would be great to get selected for the first team . It's a great sport as its fun to play and you make new friends through being part of the team."

Netball Coach Amy Harris said: "Erica and Heather have been CBA netball players for the last three years and have developed extremely well, representing the Academy in district and county matches.

"Erica had a strong background of playing netball previously and has gone from strength to strength.

Heather has worked really hard throughout the last three years, suffering with knee injuries but has honed her skills by attending the Corby Netball League on a Thursday evening.

"Being chosen to represent U16's is a fantastic opportunity for the girls and shows the determination that they both have and dedication to the sport. Both players will continue their development within the Academy when the netball seasons re-starts in February.

"They have been an absolute pleasure to coach and I am sure they will be excellent ambassadors for younger students wanting to play."
