Year 9 Magistrates Court Competition

Students step up to the bar as part of a legal competition.

On 7th March, Year 9 students took part in the Magistrates Court Competion at Peterborough Courts.

As part of the competition students had to prepare for different roles such as Magistrates, Prosecution and Defence lawyers, Legal advisor, courtroom artist, witnesses, and journalists.

Students have been preparing since January with the help of myself, Miss Friel and Miss Harrison and on the day they were fantastic and excelled in very formal surroundings.

Morium Atker, who was one of the court reporters involved with the trial, has worked with Sarah Ward to make sure her report is in good shape for a national competition. Good luck Morium!

And the court antics do not stop yet, as at the end of June the Year 9 students who competed in the Peterborough competition will be competing against each other.

Students have been issued with a new case and will be judged by Gareth Jacques a barrister who works for Regency Chambers in Peterborough, and helped us previously with the Sixth Form for Mock Trial Competition. I am looking forward to seeing how they progress after the competition.
