Dear Parent/Carer

Your son/daughter has chosen to dedicate up to an hour a fortnight to a peer mentoring programme with the charity CAN.  The programme involves mentoring young people who have been associated with CAN, a charity which provides support to young people whose lives have been affected by drugs or alcohol.  This volunteering will be in their own time although they will be permitted to use home study periods.

• The project is an opportunity to work with CAN's Youth Involvement team to develop life skills including communication, resilience and organisation. It will provide students with the opportunity to stand out from their peers when they apply for university or the world of work.

• On Saturday 19th January there will be an initial peer mentoring training session at CAN's St Giles Street office in Northampton. Your son/daughter and a small group of sixth formers from CBA will be collected by a CRB checked taxi at 8.45am from the CBA visitor's car park. The training finishes at four and they will be returned to the car park at approximately 4.30.  Lunch will be provided.
• Your son/daughter has opted to participate in this project in their free time and the trip will not be accompanied by a member of staff. Whilst CBA has facilitated the organisation of the peer mentoring project the students will be working direct with CAN.

If you are happy with your son/daughter participating in the peer mentoring project and attending the training on Saturday 19th January please complete the slip below and return it by Friday 18th January.
