Fitness Tests are under way

The second wave of our Fitness Testing programme began this week.

The second wave of our Fitness Testing programme began this week.

Students from Years 7 to 11 have been taking part in the tests which are designed to help students gain a personal insight into what fitness means for them and give them the tools to monitor their own progress.

The first set of tests took place in September and the tests include the 30m Sprint, Standing Triple Jump, Standing Long Jump, Sit Up Test, Stork Stand, Soft Ball Throw, Illinois Agility Test and the 12 Minute Cooper Test which tests cardiovascular fitness.

Sports Teacher Natasha Barstow said: “These tests make the students aware of the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle and encourage participation in sport and competition.

“The students can compare their results to national averages and use them to monitor their progress.

“The majority of students have been very interested to see their results and it has generated quite a lot of competition.

“It’s a great way to promote independent learning.”

Data from the results will also be used by our GCSE students and by our Mathematics students in their studies.

The third wave of tests will take place in June.
