Students explore NHS careers through Medical Maverick workshop
Year 9 students recently took part in activities that allowed them to explore healthcare science-based careers.
The session was led by Medical Mavericks and allowed students to carry out similar jobs to those healthcare professionals do on a daily basis. Some of the activities the students took part in included recording and printing an ECG of their heart, measuring each other’s blood pressure, and taking blood from a fake arm.
The session allowed students to gain an insight into what it would be like to work in the industry as well as the qualifications needed for specific jobs and the routes they could take into them. Students also had the opportunity to speak with recent graduates from science, health and medical courses and ask them any questions they had.
Year 9 student Gabriela said: I learnt a lot from the session about what the types of jobs in the NHS and what the role would entail. It has made me think about a possible career in the sector.”
Year 9 student Daiton said: “I enjoyed the session and it was nice to be able to participate in a practical session that helped us get an idea of what we would actually be doing as part of some of these careers.”
