  • CBA Library Poetry Competition 2023

    Published 22/06/23

To coincide with ‘World Poetry Day’ and ‘Poem in your pocket day’ CBA Library launched a poetry competition, where students could submit their entries to win a copy of ‘Life is sad and Beautiful’ by Hussain Manawer.

During their recent Library lessons, Year 7 and 8 were asked to produce their own ‘Blackout Poetry’ with which they could use to enter the competition. We received over 100 entries to the competition that was judged by our very own Mr McCormick from the English department.

We were delighted to announce the following students as our winner and runner ups:

    Winner – Rowan – Year 7

    Runner-Ups - Zuzanna M – Year 7 and Caitlin – Year 8

  • Anna James, Author of the ‘Pages & Co’ Series visits CBA

    Published 22/06/23

Bestselling author, Anna James, recently visited Corby Business Academy to talk to our Year 7 and KS3 Unit Students. Anna gave an interactive presentation to the students about her writing career and her bestselling series of books ‘Pages & Co’.

Students also had to opportunity to buy one of Anna’s books from local bookshop, Quinns of Market Harborough, which they could have signed by Anna and also have a photograph with her.

Librarian, Mrs Keelan said “This was our first Author visit since before the pandemic and many of the students’ first opportunity to meet an Author in real life. Anna was fantastic and the students really enjoyed meeting her and asking her lots of questions about her book series and career”.

Anna has always had an interest in books and reading from a young age and has carried this through to all her ‘bookish’ jobs including being a School Librarian, a literary scout, journalist and now a best-selling author.

Anna’s first book, Tilly and the Book wanderers’ is about 11-year-old Tilly Pages who loves books. Ever since her mum disappeared, Tilly has lived with her grandparents above their bookshop Pages & Co but soon discovers that she has a magic skill of ‘book wandering’. This book is a thoroughly entertaining magical adventure, perfect for all ages.

Anna’s latest book in the series has only just been released, so it was great that she could discuss all her books with the students and help to encourage and grow CBA’s love of reading.
