Our new intake of Year 7 students are being encouraged to take up a reading challenge during the summer holidays.

Next year’s new Year 7 students have been set the task of reading The Everest Files by Matt Dickinson which they have received, along with a poster full of activities connected to the book, as a welcome gift from CBA’s Library.

Students can bring their posters into the Academy in September in time for the author’s visit to CBA at the end of the month.

Librarian Amy McKay said: “It is an ambitious book but we want the students to be ambitious in their reading.

“It’s very important that all our students do some reading for pleasure over the holidays.

“We will do some workshops on the book next year and the students will have the chance to get their copies signed by the author.”

The Library will run Session 4 after school sessions on the book during the first couple of weeks of the new term.

The book will also be discussed during English lessons next year.

The Everest Files is a gripping and touching thriller set on Mount Everest.

Its author made a successful ascent of the mountain’s North Face in 1996.
